DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Oh that we might become more completely consecrated! May the image of Christ become more perfect upon us; stamp it deeper into our nature. We trust the image is there; but oh, that it set still deeper into our very selves, that all might see that the seal of the Holy Ghost was upon us, in the likeness of Christ our Lord.
Our Father, will you be pleased today to fill us with delight because of your love. Are we heavy of heart? Let your sweet love lighten the burden; for what after all can there be to trouble the man whom God loves?
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” (Psalm 23:2)
The pasture is sweet and tender, and there is so much of the green grass that it cannot all be eaten, and the superabundance makes a soft bed for the tired sheep.
Rest, O believer, in the abundant provision of God’s grace! A sheep needs sometimes to lie down. It is as necessary for its health that it should have time to digest its food as that it should have proper and sufficient food to eat.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE*
A Christ-centered audiobook to fill you with joy.
I can’t recommend Spurgeon’s classic book, All of Grace, enough. Spurgeon wrote the book to remind Christians of this wonderful good news of salvation and to invite non-Christians to taste and see.
The new audiobook of All of Grace will definitely do both of things. So, consider buying it as a Christmas gift for yourself — be refreshed by God’s grace at Christmas.
You could also buy it as a Christmas gift for a non-Christian you know. Invite them to take a refreshing drink from God’s well of grace for the first time.
